The utility's distribution network — poles, transformers, feeder lines, service connections — existed almost entirely on paper and in disconnected spreadsheets maintained by individual divisions. When outages occurred, field crews often spent longer locating the fault on paper maps than repairing it.
New connection planning was similarly manual, with overlapping infrastructure requests and no way to visualise network capacity across a division.
We ran a phased digitisation programme: field survey teams using our Mobile Survey Platform captured every asset with GPS coordinates and attribute data, feeding into a PostGIS-based enterprise data warehouse published through GeoServer.
A fault-localisation model was layered on top, cross-referencing outage complaint locations against network topology to narrow diagnosis to a handful of likely fault points within seconds.
