Forest Fire Early-Warning System

Satellite-driven fire risk detection with automated SMS alerting, deployed across 40,000 sq. km of protected forest — turning satellite passes into actionable warnings within minutes.

Client Type

State Forest Department

Outcome

Hours of Earlier Warning

The Challenge

Fire risk assessment relied on ranger patrols and manual weather bulletins, covering only a fraction of the protected area at any time. By the time a fire was reported, it had often already spread beyond easy containment.

The department needed a way to monitor the entire forest continuously, not just the areas patrols could physically reach.

Our Approach

We built a pipeline that ingests thermal-anomaly data from satellite passes, cross-referenced against vegetation dryness indices and wind conditions through a trained risk-scoring model. When risk crosses threshold, the system automatically triggers SMS alerts to range officers in the affected zone.

A department-wide dashboard visualises live risk zones, historical fire incidents and patrol coverage on one map.
